Frequently Asked Questions

This section is designed to share with you answers to some of the most “frequently asked questions” by people who are new to our Centers. If you have a question which is not answered here, we encourage you to contact us. We are here to answer any questions you may have.

Q: What is back pain?

Back problems can be caused by an extraordinarily wide range of problems – some of them originating elsewhere in the body, but with pain being transmitted (referred) to areas of the back by the nervous system. Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek medical attention. It is the symptom that prompts most patients who get chiropractic care. The majority of backache sufferers complain of pain in the lower back; the second most common site of discomfort is the base of the neck.

Q: Who suffers from back pain?

Virtually all human beings are subject to back problems. The fact that humans walk upright, on two legs, puts great pressure on the spine and muscles that support it. Over time, back pain is all but inevitable. Normal wear and tear, accidents, disease, and such bad “back habits” as unnecessary strain from overexertion at play or work (especially lifting, pushing, pulling, and reaching for things improperly), and poor standing and sitting posture result in both immediate and long-term back problems.

Q: What is Chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is a hands-on, alternative health care approach to a better health and lifestyle through manipulation of the spine and extremities, exercise and diet. Chiropractic doctors are neuromusculoskeltal (nerve-muscle-skeleton) professionals.

Q: How can Chiropractic care help me?

To begin with, Chiropractic can help you by maintaining your spine in proper alignment. Silver Health Centers will also work in conjunction with other healthcare professionals (M.D. and D.O.) whenever necessary to better serve patient’s needs. In addition, all aspects of a healthier lifestyle (ie: nutritional counseling, rehabilitative needs, exercise….) may be addressed on a patient-needed basis.

Q: What is joint manipulation?

Manipulations are high velocity, low amplitude thrusts given to a specific joint area in order to provide a theraputic result. Manipulations are often referred to as “adjustments.” There are many different and varying techniques used that will differ from chiropractor to chiropractor.

Q: Does manipulation hurt?

Manipulations sometimes do cause minor discomfort, but are not usually considered painful. Discomfort will usually disappear after the adjustment has been performed. Relief at times is instant, or for some it may take a few treatments before relief occurs. The discomfort a patient may feel is directly related to the severity of the condition as well as the length of time a patient has waited before seeking treatment for a pain or illness.
